ROAD CLOSURE: Highway 61 for a Few Days

(THUNDER BAY, ON) – After what is alleged was an excavator on a trailer hitting a bridge that overpasses highway 61 hit, the highway is now scheduled for repairs and will be closed.

The Ministry of Transportation says that Highway 61 will be closed between Broadway Ave and Neebing Avenue to all traffic starting on Monday November 11th at 10:00pm until Thursday November 14th at 6:00 am.

Further, they say that the previous detour which goes down Broadway, connecting to Neebing will be set up. The complete closure is necessary to complete the repairs safely for both motorists and workers.

MTO wants to remind the public to obey all flaggers and traffic signs that are put in place.

Last Monday is when an overheight vehicle, believed to be an excavator on a trailer, hit the bridge as it went under.

OPP continue to investigate and urge the public to come forward if anyone seen the collision happen and may have video footage of the incident.

  1. According to Thunder Bay Police this evening after expressing my concern regarding students walking to busing locations across Neebing. Traffic Enforcement Officer will be assigned to monitor the detour.

    Having observed the amount of traffic this evening stepping on the gas after crossing the tracks. I feel it is necessary to protect our children from careless accidents because of this delay in your destination.
