(NIPIGON, ON) – UPDATE: Traffic is once again flowing.
EARLIER: We have received reports that just north of Nipigon, highway 11 is at least partially blocked due to a transport jackknifing.
What we have heard is that roughly 25 to 30 kilometres north of Nipigon on highway 11 a transport appears to have jackknifed and blocked a portion of the highway.
Officers with the Nipigon detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police are on location sorting out the situation. Please remember to always slow down and move over when first responders are on the roadways working. This includes tow truck operators.
Residents in the community of Red Rock and Nipigon have been complaining recently about the apparent lacklustre road maintenance being performed by the company responsible for highways in that area.
The highway maintenance contract in that area was awarded to Emcon.
This is a developing story and we will update it as more information becomes available.
