(THUNDER BAY, ON) – An investigation into possible fraudulent actions has resulted in a 28-year-old Veronica Skunk being arrested.
A Thunder Bay bail court held a first appearance for Skunk this morning. She appeared by video from the Thunder Bay Police Service station while in custody this morning.
His Worship, Justice of the Peace Bernard Caron was presiding along with Crown Attorney A. Mason and duty counsel lawyer Aranka Golphy.
City police issued a warrant for the arrest of Veronica Skunk on November 6th, 2018. She was finally picked up and held for bail court.
The fraud allegations are said to span from February 2011 to May of 2017. Skunk is facing the following charge stemming from that time span:
- Fraud over $5000 (Thunder Bay District Social Services Administration Board)
Skunk already has an existing criminal charge working its way through court, that charge of assault is currently set to go through the “Indigenous diversion” program.
The Crown is willing to consent to the release of Skunk, with the only condition being to attend court as required.
Duty counsel has received instructions from Skunks criminal defence lawyer, who has asked that the matter returns to court on January 18th.
His Worship, Justice of the Peace orders Skunk to be released on the sole condition to appear in court when required. Her next court date is scheduled for January 18th, as per her lawyer’s request.
The Thunder Bay District Social Services Administration Board is no stranger to being frauded. Notorious fraudster Kim Berly was convicted under similar charges and was seen earlier this year next to her home watching it get demolished.
