(THUNDER BAY, ON) – The Thunder Bay Police Service has arrested a male in connection with a stolen 4 door sedan. Allegations are that the male became combative with officers by refusing to put his hands behind his back, kicking, and then rolling around on the ground. Perhaps he thought he was on fire? (Stop, Drop, and Roll).
Appearing in a Thunder Bay bail court this morning via video from the Thunder Bay Police Service station A.K.A. “Hotel Balmoral” was a 22-year-old Patrick Hall. Justice of the Peace Denette Ellard was presiding along with Crown Attorney VanKessel. Defence lawyer Heather Coates appeared this morning on behalf of lawyer Michael “The Pitbull” Hargadon.
Hall is facing the following criminal charges stemming from a July 16th incident:
- Possession of a stolen car.
- Resisting police.
- Assault police.
The Crown states that although Hall is in a Crown-onus situation, they intend to show cause as to why the accused should be held in jail. A Crown-onus situation means that the Crown would have to show the courts why Hall should be detained. Further, the Crown tells the courts that there are concerns on both the primary and secondary grounds regarding the release of Hall.
Primary ground concerns indicate the Crown believes that Hall is unlikely to return for court. Secondary ground concerns means that the Crown believes there is a substantial likelihood that Hall may reoffend or become a public safety concern.
Court hears that Hall has an extensive and related criminal record which includes failing to comply with court orders, escaping lawful custody and more. The Crown appears adamant to keep Hall behind bars.
Coates address the court and requests the matter be remanded until Friday so that Hargadon and Hall may have discussions in order to push this case forward.
Hall is ordered to remain in jail until at least Friday, where he will have another chance at bail. He is sent back to his cell where he will wait to be transported to the overcrowded Thunder Bay District Jail A.K.A. “The Algoma Bed & Breakfast”.
