New Years Eve Pow Wow at the CLE’s Heritage Building

(THUNDER BAY, ON) – The City of Thunder Bay’s Aboriginal Liaison along with members of the community have organized a New Years Eve Pow Wow that started at 1:00 pm today.

There are Drummers, Grandmother Drums, Pipe Carriers, Dancers, Healing Jingle Dress Dancers, Grassdancers, Shawl, Fancy Dancers & Women Handdrummers performing at the event. People who have volunteered in one of these roles will be given a small feast and participate in a giveaway in lieu of the traditional honourarium.

There will be healing songs for MMIWM, domestic violence victims, ancestors, history, Abinojii’z and MamaAki/Niibii.

Event organizers are still seeking additional volunteers for security, the “childrens corner” and items to be brought for the “Pot Luck” feast, such as frybread, jugs, coffee urns, etc.

All people are welcome to participate in the healing gathering which has a focus on uniting the community and educating people on how to restore their connections with Mother Earth throug the culture of the Seven Sacred Teachings.

The event is located at the CLE’s Heritage Building, which is located with an X on the map below. Hope to see you all there. The Pow Wow is scheduled to end at midnight.

  1. Miigwech Pino! Thanks for all that you do. Great write up! Its nice to see a good non fuss traditional event. Too many times now, our Pow Wows saddly turned too commercial with one of the main reasons to attend and participate is for Money. Gone are the days where pot luck feasts and non monitary give aways existed. It can still be this way if people got creative and did things for the benefit of having good clean non competitive fun!
I pray everyone is safe tonight. Treat kindly and be wise!!

Happy New Year Pino! Keep doing such a great selfless job!!
