Multiple thefts arrest, Wal-Mart, Tim Horton’s, Fresh Air Experience

(THUNDER BAY, ON) – A series of alleged thefts throughout the city has landed a 23-year-old male in police custody and in bail court this morning.

Colton Cormier appeared before Her Worship, Justice of the Peace Jennifer Neill this morning. Cormier appeared via video from the infamous Hotel Balmoral. Crown Attorney Sarah Munch was also present and appeared ready to serve justice, along with duty counsel lawyer Andrew Desmoulin and Micheal Hargadon’s and David Pierce’s assistant, law student Heather Coates.

Cormier is facing numerous charges from multiple dates going back to August 7th, 2018 of this year. He was also on at least 2 separate probation orders at the time of some of the alleged offences.

On August 7th, 2018 it is alleged that Cormier had stolen item(s) from the Fresh Air Experience location on Balmoral Avenue, along with violating his probation orders. He has since been arrested and charged with:

  • Theft under $5000
  • Failure to comply with probation x2 (keep the peace and be of good behaviour)

It is also alleged that between September 26th, 2018 and October 12th, 2018, Cormier failed to report to his probation officer as per his court order. He was also arrested and charged for this incident as well:

  • Failure to comply with probation (failed to report)

On October 27th, 2018 it is alleged that Cormier entered the Tim Horton’s on River Street and stole the poppy donation box. The Thunder Bay Police Service have since arrested and charged Cormier with the following criminal offences:

  • Theft under $5000 (poppy donation box)
  • Failure to comply with probation x3 (keep the peace and be of good behaviour)

And finally, yesterday resulted in further charges when it is alleged that Cormier was arrested after stealing from Wal-Mart on Dawson road. When he was confronted by police, he attempted to obstruct the police investigation by providing a false name. His charges from this incident are:

  • Obstruct police
  • Theft under $5000 (Wal-Mart, Dawson road)
  • Failure to comply with probation x3 (keep the peace and be of good behaviour)

The Crown tells the courts that this is a “Crown-onus” situation and that her concerns are mainly on the primary grounds. Primary ground concerns mean that the Crown believes the likelihood of the accused to return to court is substantially low.

Crown Attorney Sarah Munch tells the court that she would consider a consent release for Cormier if a supervision based bail plan were presented to her, and she had time to review it. She further tells us that Cormier was reviewed by the John Howard Society, and they have refused to take him under their program.

Law-student Heather Coates is here on behalf of Micheal Hargadon, and she requests the matter be remanded until Tuesday.

The Justice of the Peace orders Cormier to remain in jail until at least Tuesday, where the guy will have another swing at getting released from custody. He is sent back to his cell where he will wait to be transported to the Thunder Bay District Jail.

We’ll see how the game ends.

Also, you don’t see him assaulting the Police because he was caught doing something illegal – nor do you hear the outrage from the White leader threatening a lawsuit or “systemic “racism in Thunder Bay.

  1. Bubba………dont waste your breath.Loopy will never get it.She can stick with her “warriors” because those are the ones that will rob her blind in the end. Some people will never get it
