Men’s Quarters at the Pinty’s GSOC

(THUNDER BAY, ON) – Men’s Quarters at the Pinty’s GSOC had the house a Rockin’.

On sheet E it is the battle of two Olympic Champs, Northern Ontario native Brad Jacobs and his foursome  showdown against USA sensation John Shuster. Jacobs got 2 in the first and John made his draw for one in the second end.

The perennial Norther O champ got his 2 again in the third and 4-1 lead over the rockstars from Minnesota.

Team Shuster got themselves out of trouble and made a blank in the 4th. With a well set up end Team Shuster gets its duece while John’s son Luke yells “Good Shot Dad” above the crowd at the packed arena.

Drawing to the pin Team Jacobs keeps control of the game and gets their two with the hammer, up 3 with two ends left.

Capitalizing on what he had and making a Skipper’s 3 in the 7the end these Gold Medal champs are all squared coming home, Team Jacobs with hammer.

About as good as he could set it up Brad Jacobs with a hit and roll to the four foot for the win

De Cruz(SUI) and Koe faced off on sheet D. After being forced to one in the first end De Cruz gave up two but took 3 in the third for a 4-2 lead over Team Koe.

De Cruz kept the pressure on and made Koe draw for a single in the 4th. Returning the favour Koe played a god end and held De Cruz to a single draw for 1 in 5.

A 2 in 6 and Koe’s team ties it all up. After a heavy draw down to the yellow stone, Team De Cruz takes a 2 point lead into final end.

After a measure in the last end Koe fell just short of the comeback.

Team Gushue played against oldest competitor in the field Howard on sheet B.

A clear first end Gushue got 1 but the silver fox Howard had a few tricks up his sleeve and squeezed two in to a packed four foot area in the second.

Pounding the rock Walker and Gallant dragged the red stone into the button for a measure but it was Howard who narrowly got the steal and the point to go up 3-1 after 4.

A solid draw by Gushue and the game is tied 3-3 with 3 remaining. After scoring two more Howard then forced Brad Gushue to a single going up 1 headed home with hammer.

Howard with a single in 8 shows he still has something left in the tank as the foursome which includes his son is off to the semi finals.
