(THUNDER BAY, ON) – A 52-year-old Steven Gregoire appeared in a Thunder Bay bail court via video from the Thunder Bay Police station this morning.

Her Worship, Justice of the Peace Anna Gibbon was presiding along with Crown Attorney Franceline Auclair and duty counsel lawyer Aranka Golphy.

The Thunder Bay Police Service responded to a call regarding a welfare check for a woman at an Adelaide street apartment building.

Police discovered that she was involved in a domestic violence situation, the victim and Gregoire were arguing about the woman’s ex-boyfriend.

The woman was on the couch, and Gregoire picked her up by her sweater and then threw her back down on the ground. Upon hitting the ground, her back had hit the step up to the dining room.

The two don’t live together and do not have children together.

Steven Gregoire is facing the following charge:

  • Assault

The Crown told the court that this is a Crown onus situation and that she would consent to his release under the following conditions:

  • Reside in his 300 block Adelaide street apartment
  • No contact with the victim
  • Do not attend within 50 meters of anywhere the victim may be
  • Do not possess any weapons

The Crown says that has a limited recent criminal record and lists the two things on his record as follows:

  • Operate a motor vehicle with over 80mg of alcohol (2012)
  • Assault (2000)

Justice of the Peace Gibbons finds this release plan satisfactory and goes over Gregoire’s release conditions with him again to ensure he understands them. Gregoire seems to understand him, and Her Worship orders him released.

Gregoire is sent back to his jail cell to pass some time while the paperwork regarding his release is completed, in which he will be released at that point.
