(THUNDER BAY, ON) – A local hunter was enjoying a local island when he stumbled across something that seriously upset him.

The man was on Mission Island, studying the deer’s habits, investigating if they have started their breeding season yet.

During his hike around the island, he stumbled across something that “pissed” him off. It was a dead buck with its head clearly removed by humans.

The buck was found presumably shot, beheaded and left for dead. Whoever did this, did this for the antlers on the animal.

The animal is believed to have been there for 3 to 4 days tops.

*** UPDATE: A man has come forward to us with developing information. He alleges that this deer was victim to a coyote, and died in the bush.

Then coyotes came and ate some of the carcass. The man came across the deer and took a photo of it.

The following day when he was in the same area, he noticed the deers head was missing.

We will continue to update this story if it develops any further.

  1. Unlikely that coyotes killed an otherwise healthy deer this time of year. More likely it was hit by a vehicle and died. Good to see it does not appear it was poached.

  2. A few years back someone killed two monster bucks on the island. The S.O.B. needs to be caught and mad an example of !
