(THUNDER BAY, ON) – ALLEGED DANGEROUS DRIVING TRUCK THIEF DENIED BAIL
Appearing handcuffed in Courtroom 103 this morning, Tuesday February 19,2019 before Justice of the Peace Anna Gibbon is 27 year old CHEYENNE MARIE BANNON.
BANNON is up for another bail hearing today on several allegations. Her most serious allegation is driving a stolen truck into a business.
Crown Attorney Misbah Haque and Defence Attorney David Bruzzese are present.
BANNON allegedly stole 700$ of property on June 17,2018 and it was captured on video. She was released. She’s also accused of failing to report to her probation officer in June 2018.
It’s alleged that BANNON stole her grandfather’s 2006 Dodge Ram pickup truck on December 6,2018. She was known to be WANTED by police and a suspended driver.
THE DIRECTOR OF COMMUNICATIONS AT TBPS DID NOT POST HER ON WANTED WEDNESDAY.
BANNON was allegedly observed by an undercover TBPS Officer getting into the stolen truck near McMurray and Ogden Street area. The officer followed calling for a marked vehicle to come assist. The marked vehicle attempted to initiate a traffic stop but it’s alleged that BANNON accelerated to flee going through a stop sign and sideswiping a FedEx truck before crashing through the front business of ADDUONO’S SHEET METAL & HEATING LTD located at 701 North Vickers St.
BANNON was arrested and taken into custody December 6,2018.
On December 10,2018, she was released on bail with conditions and her grandparents as surety.
On December 11,2018 she did not return to her grandparents home by the required curfew.
On December 12,2018 her grandparents sought surety relief and notified police and the courts. A warrant was put out for the arrest of CHEYENNE BANNON.
DESPITE BEING WANTED BY POLICE AGAIN, THE DIRECTOR OF COMMUNICATIONS AT TBPS DID NOT POST HER ON WANTED WEDNESDAY.
In January 2019, BANNON allegedly failed to appear for court. Another bench warrant was issued.
STILL NO NOTICE TO THE PUBLIC FROM THE DIRECTOR OF COMMUNICATIONS AT TBPS.
Almost 2 months go by with no notice to public.
On February 7,2019 it’s alleged that BANNON had posted via social media that she was staying in a suite at the Days Inn on Sibley Drive. TBPS Officers spotted that and went to the hotel. They stood outside Room #133 and could hear coughing inside.
BANNON apparently has a very distinctive, unique and recognizable cough to Thunder Bay Police.
A TBPS officer tried phoning BANNON’s cell phone number and could hear it ringing in the room. TBPS entered room and arrested BANNON again.
My observations of BANNON are that she has been exhibiting very sketchy behaviour through the proceeding. She makes a lot of strange faces and can’t sit still. Her hair still has remnants of red in it from an old dye job.
She requests handcuffs be removed and TBPS Special Constables accomadate that. She then removes jacket and takes off red sweater she’s wearing revealing white T-shirt. Five minutes later, sweater back on and continual sketchy movement in prisoner’s box. My guess would be that she’s in her mid to late 30’s and not an actual 27 years of age.
BANNON’s grandparents are in court to propose themselves as surety again. The plan is to have BANNON on full house arrest.
Her elderly grandmother testified she knows some of the granddaughter’s criminal convictions and knows she received a 9 month jail sentence (BANNON was arrested with criminal boyfriend JAYMZ HANCOCK in November 2017 for possession of crack cocaine).
Crown Attorney Haque asks if she knows Cheyenne has 17 criminal convictions. Grandmother is not aware. She also has 2 convictions for flight from police.
BANNON has 2 children, a 9 and 6 year old whom are cared for by the grandparents. The grandmother knows Cheyenne uses crack, Percocets and cocaine. She wants Cheyenne to start being a mother to her kids. They brought the kids to jail yesterday to visit their Mom.
Crown Attorney Haque argues that previous supervision by grandmother has failed and that BANNON’s drug use and behaviour causes significant risk and safety issues to the public.
Bail is denied to BANNON and a detention order is issued. She will remain in jail until trial.
Almost all other media outlets in the city are sitting outside in the hallway on the second floor of the courthouse playing on their phones.
The Director of Communications at TBPS has another massive failure to notify the public.
