Attention Concerned Citizens, from a concerned citizen.
When tips are submitted, there is a lack of photographs. I have been questioning why this is? It has been brought to my attention that people who come across a petty crime, a crime scene involving death, car accident or any type of “lets report this to Concerned Citizens” scenario are worried they may get into some sort of legal trouble by doing so.
In summary, that is a myth. In Ontario, providing you aren’t breaking the law (distracted driving, trespassing) you can in fact record, live stream and photograph whatever you wish.
Police are not allowed to confiscate any type of camera (recording device or phone) You can not be forced to delete any photographs but you CAN be asked to stop taking pictures. You do not have to comply with police requests to not take photos.
Last but not least, the Police can not prevent you from recording, photographing or live-streaming in public places.
Let’s keep submitting and get loud about it!
