According to a release made by police, Hurt was hit with narcan twice before being transported to an area hospital where she made complete recovery. After being releaased from hospital, she was transported to the county jail and charged with child neglect and possession of drug parapharnelia.

The infant was given to his grandmother who was granted guardianship by Child Protective Services after this incident.
The woman claims that she has been sober for 3 years now and appears happy to report via the addicts diary that she has turned her life around.
“Millions saw me overdose after a photo taken of me by a police officer went viral. None of those people have seemed to have time to reach out and check on me, so here is an update: Today I celebrated three years clean and my son gets to have his mommy back. How about you make THAT go viral!” – Erika Hurt.
