(TORONTO, ON) – A second case of coronavirus has been confirmed in Toronto.
Ontario’s Chief Medical Officer of Health confirmed the second case on Monday.
The second case is the wife of the first confirmed case. Officials say the wife has been in self-isolation since arriving in the city.
They say the pair travelled to Wuhan, China before recently returning to Toronto,
Dr. David Williams, Chief Medical Officer of Health indicates that the risk of the virus spreading is low due to the woman being isolated since arriving in the city.
Over 2200 people are confirmed infected with the coronavirus and over 80 people have died. Health Minister Patty Hajdu indicates that coronavirus is unlikely to become a major issue in Canada.
The coronavirus is believed to have originated in Wuhan, China, in a wildlife market where live animals are sold next to raw meat.
Williams is expected to give an update on the coronavirus at 11:30 am this morning from Queen’s Park.
