Thunder Bay Fire Rescue has responded to the scene, and called for a second alarm upon their arrival.

A second alarm is when firefighters are requesting backup, which usually includes 3 additional pumper trucks and one aerial ladder.

The Platoon Chief  told TRCCTB.COM that as of 1:00 pm they had no solid answer as to what caused the fire

Nobody was home when the blaze broke out, one of the relatives to the home owner told TRCTB.COM.

Smoke was coming out of the vents on the roof as well as a basement window.

The home sustained substantial smoke and fire damage.

Firefighters were using thermal imaging equipment to identify any potential hotspots (not wifi, but actual spots that are hot).

Fire crews had the situation under control in about 15 minutes. The fire appears to have started in a storage toom, and worked its way up, filling the attic with smoke.

Thunder Bay Hydro was called to the scene and power was cut to the building.

We will update this article once a cause of the fire is determined.
