(WINNIPEG, MB) – A tragic report has made it into our newsroom regarding the death of a Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) officer.
The RCMP reports that one of their officers died while on-duty at a highway collision that was located on Winnipeg’s perimeter highway.
They didn’t say how he died and haven’t released any further information. There were a number of collisions on the perimeter highway today and police have confirmed this was at the north side collision. The officer is believed to have been driving a unmarked prisoner transport van.
The nation is in mourning and heartfelt condolences and respects are being sent all over social media.
People need to respect and obey the “slow down and move over” law when they are passing an active scene on roadways. If you see police, fire, ambulance, tow trucks or anyone else working on a roadway, it is the law that you must slow down and move over. Give our first responders room to work. Everyone should come home to their families after work.
This is a developing story and we will provide a follow up article when more information is available.
