(WINNIPEG, MB) – Officers with the Winnipeg Police Service had their work cut out for them as they responded to a call for service regarding a stolen fire truck.
Police say that they have a suspect in custody who stole a fire truck and attempted to run people over in Winnipeg’s Central Park.
The fire truck responded to a medical call in the area of Henderson Highway in which it collided with a civilian vehicle after being stolen according to police.
At that point the suspect fled downtown in the fire truck through Central Park and behind Portage Place. Soon after, the fire truck chase came to an end under the Midtown Bridge on Assiniboine Avenue. Police closed the road off to conduct their investigation. In the video posted below, you can see officers tossing a spike-belt in front of the fire truck as it passes them.
Just before 1:00 pm officers had the suspect in custody but not before having to use a taser to stop the chaos.
The fire truck had suffered visible damage including flat tires along with the front passenger tire missing completely.
