(THUNDER BAY, ON) – HARDWORKING TBPS OFFICERS ARREST OFF DUTY OPP OFFICER FOR ALLEGED DRUG IMPAIRED DRIVING AFTER COLLISION ON RIVERDALE ROAD.
OPP OFFICER IS ALLEGED TO RUN AWAY FROM HARDWORKING TBPS OFFICERS.
On the afternoon of October 28,2019, a red Jeep Compass driven by 47 year old off duty OPP Officer JONATHAN GERRARD BERGSMA was travelling on Riverdale Road when he is alleged to have collided with a parked trailer.
It’s not known why the parked trailer leaped into his path of driving.(sarcasm).
TBPS Officers responded quickly to the scene and assessed the situation. It was determined that Bergsma showed no signs of impairment by alcohol.
BUT, TBPS Officers determined there were plenty of signs of impairment by drugs.
BERGSMA was brought to the Thunder Bay Regional Health Sciences Centre while a warrant was being sought for his blood. At that point it is alleged that BERGSMA tried to flee the TBPS Officers from the hospital. Officers quickly captured BERGSMA and obtained the blood warrant. BERGSMA was charged with careless driving pending the results of the blood test.
DRUG USE BY OPP OFFICER BERGSMA
Bergsma was allegedly taking a variety of prescription drugs. Inside Edition has obtained court documents that show he tested positive for Buproprion, Clonazepam and Quetiapine. Documents further indicate that BERGSMA unintentionally overdosed on Clonazepam the evening before.
