(THUNDER BAY, ON) – On December 17th, 2019 officers with the Thunder Bay Police Service responded to a call regarding a break and enter and theft from St. Joseph’s Care Group.
An investigation was conducted by responding officers which lead to the arrest of Brian Vandal. He was taken into police custody and transported to the Thunder Bay Police Service (TBPS) station located at 1200 Balmoral Street where he was held pending a court appearance.
Vandal appeared in a Thunder Bay Courthouse courtroom this morning via video link from the TBPS station. Senior Regional Justice of the Peace Bernard Caron was presiding over Vandal’s matter along with Crown Attorney Katrina “Lock ’em UP!” VanKessel, star-studded criminal defence lawyer Brennen Sacevich acting as duty counsel along with elite criminal defence lawyer David Young.
Vandal was charged with the following offences:
- Break and enter and commit theft (St. Joseph’s Care Group).
- Breaching a probation order made on May 24th, 2019 (keep the peace and be of good behaviour).
- Breaching a probation order made on May 30th, 2019 (keep the peace and be of good behaviour).
The Crown is not consenting to the release of Vandal today and tells the court that Vandal is in a reverse-onus situation. This means that the burden falls on Vandal to show the courts why he should be released.
David Young requested that Vandal return to court on January 10th, 2020 to begin answering to the charges laid his client.
