ROBBERY: Excalibur Robbery Arrest Made


(THUNDER BAY, ON) – Another day, another robbery/theft in Thunder Bay, likely driven by an out of control drug or alcohol addiction.
Police have arrested and detained 50-year-old Dina Shafranski pertaining to the robbery of the Excalibur store. She has been charged with robbery and appeared in bail court on the morning of Friday September 6th, 2019 via video link from the Thunder Bay Police Service Station.
His Worship, Justice of the Peace Logan, a visiting JP from Fort Frances, was presiding along with the Crown Attorney and duty counsel lawyer Aranka Golphy.
Court hears that Shafranski is already working her way through the criminal justice system with 8 outstanding theft charges and one failure to appear for court charge.
The Crown is opposing the release of Shafranski and bases is on the primary and secondary grounds. Primary ground concerns indicates that the Crown believes there is a substantial likelihood for Shafranski not to return to court should she be released. Secondary ground concerns indicates that the Crown believes that should Shafranski be released, she is likely to become a public safety concern or re-offend.
Duty counsel lawyer Aranka Golphy tells the court that she will email Shafranski’s lawyer to update them on her current situation and further requests the matter be remanded to a Monday September 9th court date.
Justice of the Peace Logan orders Shafranski to remain in jail until at least Monday, where she will have another swing at getting released from custody.
