(NAKINA, ON) – A scary situation unfolded in Nakina, Ontario on December 5th. Hardworking officers with the Greenstone detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to a call regarding a suspect shooting their gun off at a residence.
The front door of a home in the 100 block of Algoma street got hit and lives were put in danger. Police moved swiftly and effectively with their investigation and as a result have arrested 71-year-old Joseph Albert Stewart. Police laid charges on Stewart and held him in police custody at the Greenstone OPP detachment for court.
Stewart appeared in a Thunder Bay Courthouse courtroom this morning via video link from the Greenstone OPP detachment. Justice of the Peace Anna Gibbon was presiding along with Crown Attorney Derrick “The HAMMER” Silvestro and a duty counsel representative.
Stewart is facing an impressive list of charges stemming from the incident:
- Using a firearm in a careless manner.
- Discharging a firearm with intent and endangering another person.
- Mischief causing damage to a front door by shooting a shotgun and endangering life.
- Store firearm in a careless manner x4.
- Possession of a firearm with no license x8
Stewart isn’t granted release from police custody and is being transported to the overcrowded and understaffed Thunder Bay District Jail. He returns to court on Monday December 9th, 2019 to begin answering to the charges and possibly be released.
