Festive RIDE Program Nails Impaired Charges


(BERGLUND, ON) – Shortly after 11:00 pm on November 23, 2019 members of the Rainy River District Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police were conducting a Reduce Impaired Driving Everywhere (R.I.D.E.) check at the corner of Hwy 621 and Hwy 600 in Berglund.

A vehicle approached driving slowly passed the officers, eventually stopping. Officers used an approved roadside screening device and obtained grounds that there was 80 or more milligrams of alcohol in 100 ml of blood. The driver was arrested and taken to the Rainy River Detachment for further investigation.


As a result of this investigation, Nicholas ARCHIE (21) of Big Grassy First Nation was charged with

  • Operate a conveyance with 80 or more milligrams of alcohol in 100 ml of blood; and
  • Operate a conveyance while impaired by drug or alcohol.

He will appear in Rainy River Provincial Court on Wednesday January 22, 2020 at 10:00 am to answer to these charges.
