(THUNDER BAY, ON) – Staff at the Airlane Hotel located at 698 Arthur Street West had to deal with a Friday the 13th incident which involved nudity and an intoxicated man.
Allegations are that officers with the Thunder Bay Police Service (TBPS) were dispatched to the Airlane Hotel after reports were made that an intoxicated man was naked in the hotel lobby. Upon arrival of officers they located the drunken and nude man.
Officers conducted an investigation and determined that the male was out on bail conditions to not be consuming alcohol. The suspect is currently out on a bail release from a neighbouring jurisdiction and already has multiple breaches from the distant jurisdiction.
22-year-old David Barkman was arrested, charged, and held in police custody pending a court appearance which was conducted this morning at the Thunder Bay Courthouse. He appeared via video link from the Balmoral Street TBPS station in front of Justice of the Peace Zelda Kitchekeesic. Derrick “The HAMMER” Silvestro was the Crown Attorney as he was facing opposition from the talented criminal defence lawyer Emily Morris, who was filling the role of duty counsel this morning.
Barkman is facing a single new charge today of breaching his bail condition to not consume alcohol. This would be his fourth breach based off the predicate charge, which was not mentioned in court today.
The Crown is recommending the release of Barkman today on an undertaking bail plan with no surety needed. The sole condition being that he refrain from the possession or consumption of alcohol. Duty counsel tells the court that Barkman says he can abide by this condition. Further, Morris requests that Barkman return to a Thunder Bay courtroom on December 31st to begin answering to the new charge.
Barkman is ordered released from police custody and is scheduled to appear in court on December 31st, 2019.
