(DRYDEN, ON) – Officers with the Dryden Police Service have been investigating an incident on September 25th, 2019, in which a woman was assaulted by an alleged drug dealer. In the early morning hours of September 28th, 2019, police managed to make the arrest and charge a male with the a number of charges.
55-year-old John Alexander King was arrested, detained, and charged with the following criminal offences:
- Assault (on a woman).
- Possession for the purpose of trafficking (oxycodone).
- Possession for the purpose of trafficking (hydromorphone).
- Possession for the purpose of trafficking (cocaine).
- Possession for the purpose of trafficking (tylenol 3).
This mornings bail court had Her Worship, Justice of the Peace Anna Gibbon presiding along with Federal Crown Attorney Misbah Haque, Provincial Crown Attorney Derrick “The Hammer” Silvestro and duty counsel lawyer Robert Habjan.
Federal Crown Haque tells the court that King is in a reverse-onus situation and that he intends to put him to that onus. A reverse-onus situation means that King will have to show the courts why he should be released. A request is put forth by the Crown that King be court ordered not to contact his alleged victim while he is in jail. Provincial Crown Attorney Silvestro hammers the court with an echo of the Federal Crown’s position.
King speaks in private with duty counsel Habjan, upon returning to court, duty counsel informs the court that King informed him that his preferred lawyer is Danny Gunn. Duty counsel will reach out to Gunn and update him on the situation his client is in. A request for King to return to court on Wednesday in Dryden is put forth by duty counsel.
Her Worship, Justice of the Peace Anna Gibbons orders King to remain in jail and not contact his alleged victim until at least Wednesday, when he will have another shot at being released from jail.
