(THUNDER BAY, ON) – Details are thin at this moment and we will update this article with additional information as it becomes available.
On December 5th, 2019, officers with the Thunder Bay Police Service interrupted alleged drug trafficking activities in the city of Thunder Bay.
A southern Ontario resident, a suspected gang member, was arrested and appeared in court this morning via video link from the TBPS station located on Balmoral Street. Justice of the Peace Anna Gibbon was presiding along with extremely talented Federal Crown Attorney Ron Poirier, Provincial Crown Attorney Derrick “The HAMMER” Silvestro and star studded duty counsel lawyer Stella Vallelungo.
20-year-old Kwabeno Oware of southern Ontario is facing the following charges:
- Possession for the purpose of trafficking (cocaine).
- Fraudulently personate to avoid arrest.
He was denied bail this morning as the Crown cited all three grounds as concerns regarding his release. The Primary ground concerns means that the Crown believes there is a substantial risk that Oware won’t return to court. Secondary ground concerns means that the Crown believes Oware is likely to re-offend or become a public safety concern. Tertiary ground concerns means that the Crown believes that should Oware be released, it would shake the public’s confidence in the administration of justice.
Oware was ordered to remain in jail for the time being. He will be headed to the overcrowded and understaffed Thunder Bay District Jail. Oware is scheduled to return to court on Monday, December 9th, 2019 to begin answering to the charges.
