(THUNDER BAY, ON) – Officers with the Thunder Bay Police Service responded to a call for service on September 24th, 2019, regarding a home invasion that had taken place in the 1100 block of Donald Street. The victim of the violent home invasion was a woman.
The investigation lead to the arrest of 33-year-old Corey Linklater. Linklater appeared in bail court this morning via video link while in police custody at the TBPS station (A.K.A. “Hotel Balmoral”). His Worship, Regional Senior Justice of the Peace Bernard Caron was presiding along with Crown Attorney Afton Brown and duty counsel lawyer Lianne Roberge.
Linklater is facing the following criminal charges stemming from an incident on September 24th, 2019:
- Assault causing bodily harm (on a woman).
- Forcible confinement.
- Break and enter and commit assault causing bodily harm.
- Breaching bail conditions (not to contact the woman who is alleged to be the victim in this case).
- Breaching probation conditions (keep the peace and be of good behaviour.
Linklater was put on probation on May 10th of this year and has already found his way back into bail court. He has outstanding charges which allege that he has previously assaulted this same woman who had her home broken into and was brutally assaulted.
The Crown tells the courts sternly that Linklater is in a “reverse-onus” situation, meaning that he will have to show the courts why he should be released. There appear to be strong secondary ground concerns also circling Linklater’s release, meaning the Crown believes that should he be released, he is likely to re-offend or become a public safety concern.
Duty counsel requests the matter return to court on October 2nd, 2019. Linklater is ordered to remain in custody. He is now going to be shipped off to the overcrowded and understaffed Thunder Bay District Jail (A.K.A. “The Algoma Bed & Breakfast”), where he will sit in deplorable conditions while he awaits his release from jail.
If you are looking for Corey, you’ll have to link later, as the jail is overcrowded and visitation availability is likely strained.
