(THUNDER BAY, ON) – Yesterday, a dropped 911 call was received by the emergency dispatchers at the Thunder Bay Police Service which lead back to room 137 at the Airlane Hotel. Upon police arrival they located 30-year-old Giovanni Taddeo and a woman. Both people expressed that there was no emergency or need for police.
Police conducted a check on both people and quickly determined that Taddeo was court ordered not to be around the woman. Police arrested Taddeo and took him down to the station where he was held until bail court in the morning.
Taddeo appeared in court via video link. Justice of the Peace Marcel Donio was presiding along with Crown Attorney Derrick Silvestro and duty counsel lawyer Robert Habjan. Taddeo is facing the following criminal charges stemming from the Airlane Hotel incident:
- Breach of probation (Keep the peace and be of good behaviour).
- Breach of probation (Not to contact a certain woman).
The Crown indicates that the onus is on them to show the courts why Taddeo should be detained, but instead recommends release even tho there are secondary concerns regarding Taddeo. Secondary concerns means that the Crown believes the likelihood for Taddeo to either re-offend, become a public safety concern or nuisance is substantial.
Court hears the conditions the Crown is willing to release Taddeo on. They are:
- $500 non-deposit recognizance of bail.
- Reside in the 100 block of Balsam Street in Ignace, Ontario.
- Do not contact the woman he was caught in contact with.
- Do not attend within 50 meters of anywhere that woman may be.
Duty counsel has canvassed these conditions with Taddeo and it appears he consents to them. He is ordered released and has a future court date set of September 20th to begin answering to these new criminal charges. Court hears that Taddeo does not have a defence lawyer of choice just yet.
None of these charges have been proven in court. Photos of Taddeo were obtained through Facebook.
