Chum Charged for Indecent Act, Mischief & More

(THUNDER BAY, ON) – Appearing in a Thunder Bay Courthouse courtroom this morning was a 40-year-old Jonathan Chum. He was arrested by officers with the Sioux Lookout detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police and held in custody for his court appearance.
His Worship, Justice of the Peace Marcel Donio was presiding, along with Crown Attorney Rob Kozak and criminal defence lawyer performing the role of duty counsel, Emily Morris.
Chum is facing the following criminal charges:

  • Indecent Act.
  • Mischief.

Allegations are that a warrant was issued when Chum failed to appear in court and he has been re-arrested on these charges.
The Crown is recommending release based on police input. Chum is suggested released on his own undertaking with the sole condition to return to court in Red Lake to handle these issues.
Duty counsel requests a court date in Sioux Lookout on October 22nd to begin dealing with the breach charge there. That request is granted by the Justice of the Peace.
Chum is ordered released from jail and is free to roam around once again.
