(THUNDER BAY, ON) – Earlier, the Ontario Provincial Police informed the public that they have identified the vehicle and driver involved in the damage to the Highway 61 bridge.
Days ago, we informed the public that we had reason to believe it was an excavator that was on a trailer that hit the bridge.
Today, we have confirmed our findings. The excavator is equipped with a clamping device meant to pick up logs, instead of a bucket. You can see the damage at the top of the machines arm, where the bridge was struck.
We are uncertain which company owns this machine, but perhaps the public can help with that and contact us with the info. Our text line is 807-355-8917 and our email is firstname.lastname@example.org.
The damage to the bridge has caused chaos and frustration for travellers headed down Highway 61 or back into town through the same route. Luckily, the James Street Bridge opened just as this happened so that Fort William First Nation isn’t stuck behind the bogged down traffic.
As always, we are working hard to uncover further details. Anyone with more information is asked to contact us immediately.
