ILLEGAL BORDER CROSSER WHO WANTED SUICIDE BY COP SENTENCED IN THUNDER BAY TO 9 MONTHS IN JAIL.
Appearing in Courtroom 301 to plead guilty and be sentenced this afternoon, Friday January 4,2019 is 39 year old MICHAEL KIM MELICHAR of La Grange Park, Illinois.
MELICHAR is represented by local lawyer Kate Brindley. Federal Crown Arturo Acosta and Provincial Crown Derrick Silvestro are present to prosecute before Her Honour Justice Elaine Burton.
MELICHAR is led into the prisoner’s box by TBPS Special Constables. MELICHAR is a white male and stands about 5’5” tall and is approximately 140lbs with dark hair resembling a mop. He’s wearing a gray T-shirt and track pants and has a not very full goatee with other patchy facial hair. He also has a poorly drawn “tribal” tattoo on left forearm. Like the ones that were popular in the late 90’s.
MELICHAR is pleading guilty to a few charges.
ADMITTED FACTS BEFORE THE COURT.
On September 12,2018 at 8:05am, the Canada Border Service Agency (CBSA) at Pigeon River Border Crossing contacted OPP to notify them that a Nissan Sentra bearing Illinois license plate 890T893 registered to MICHAEL KIM MELICHAR had physically ran the border gate and was proceeding northbound on Highway 61 towards Thunder Bay.
OPP were advised he was possibly armed and suicidal.
At 8:18am the OPP spotted the vehicle in question and followed it awaiting additional officers to arrive.
The Seargeant on duty called for a rolling block and officers activated lights and sirens. The male inside the vehicle rolled down window and had arm waving outside of it.
At 8:23am OPP got vehicle stopped approximately 36 kilometres north of the border at Boy Scout Road.
MELICHAR exited the vehicle immediately with what appeared to be a handgun. An OPP Officer fired 2 shots in his direction instructing him to put down the gun.
MELICHAR responded “Aren’t you going to shoot me? Just shoot me! Just shoot me!”, he sits down in the ditch emotionally distraught and is talked into dropping his gun at 8:29am.
The gun was a Daisy Model 426 CO2 powered air pistol that was not loaded. It normally has an orange tip, but MELICHAR had painted it black.
Once in OPP custody, MELICHAR was extremely cooperative and revealed he had been trying to commit suicide of death by cop and had been unsuccessful in attracting American police attention.
MELICHAR is an American citizen but was born in South Korea to American parents and moved to the USA at a young age. His parents divorced when he was 7 years of age. He has a high school diploma and has worked as a flight attendant as well as a food and beverage supervisor in the hospitality industry. The court is told he is also a writer for a successful family blog. (Inside Edition searched Google but found no evidence of this)
Court is also told he has been diagnosed with depression previous to his arrival in Canada but no longer suffers suicidal tendencies.
CBSA HAS A WARRANT TO DEPORT MELICHAR AS SOON AS THE CANADIAN JUSTICE SYSTEM IS DONE WITH HIM.
The joint submission is for a global sentence of 9 months jail time.
MELICHAR has been in custody at the Thunder Bay Jail for 114 days which is enhanced to 171 days due to poor conditions at the Thunder Bay Jail. He will have another 99 days left on his sentence.
Justice Burton tells MELICHAR that “This could have gone so badly wrong in so many ways. This sentence in any other circumstance would be inadequately low. I’m satisfied you were suffering mental health issues.”
The judge orders him to submit his DNA and he also has a lifetime weapons ban in Canada.
The moment his Canadian sentence is completed, he will be taken into custody by the CBSA and delivered to American authorities.
His black Nissan Sentra was forfeited to the Crown.
WANTED FOR RAPE IN ILLINOIS
Inside Edition made some phone calls to American police and discovered that MELICHAR is wanted for a violent gun point rape when he’s returned to America.
Inside Edition was unable to acquire a photograph of MICHAEL KIM MELICHAR
As usual, local taxpayer subsidized media are not present to report this.
