Officers arrived in the area and located footprints in the freshly fallen snow, which were suspected to be linked to the original call for service. Police followed the footprints and located two male suspects.

Further investigation led officers to discover that an 18-year-old male had been the victim of an assault at the Syndicate Avenue North residence.

The male victim was transported to the Thunder Bay Regional Health Sciences Centre for further treatment of his life-threatening injuries.

  1. this is just heartbreaking ,my condolances to the family of this young man. Austin you have earned your wings so fly high with the Angels gone but never to be forgotten..

  2. A tragic ending to a young man’s life at the hands of these uncivilized psycho murderers.

These two punks need to have their heads read. To carry out such a bloodthirsty, brutal killing, I’m certain they have serious mental problems. Probably “Fetal Alcohol Syndrome” brain damage. If so, these two pricks will walk with very little punishment.

Unfortunately Gladue will be swinging into action to mitigate any punishment they might receive. Likely a couple weeks in a healing lodge and prohibition of being in possession of baseball bats and hammers.

Anyone heard anything from Alvin Fiddler? ……. No?……. Nothing???

    1. Rex, FAS can be a very real mental disorder so don’t dismiss it as a defence to some degree. I know of several people with FAS and they have serious issues discerning right from wrong. Do some research before spouting off. Please

    2. Laura:

So, in essence, you’re supporting my suspicions right?

These two murdering psychos likely have severe mental disorders and there’s a very good chance that FAS is responsible. Seems we’re in agreement on that.

Let’s all give praise to the alcohol/drug fuelled parents that produced these monsters.

  3. Sincere sympathy for Austins family. The enormous heartbreak they are experiencing because of a couple of filthy turds must be unimaginable. I hope Austins family knows that the community is also greiving with them. I also hope Karma is checking the list to deliver a suitable payback for the two POS responsible for this hurt.

  4. This beyond disgusting and very upsetting!! My heart goes out to the family and to everyone that loves him as I’m so sorry for your loss . I noticed the rosary around his hand😢 Our Lord Jesus Christ will welcome him and take very special care of him ❤.

As for the 2 animals that did this to him…I wish Canada would bring back the gallows because these 2 don’t deserve to live! It’s times like this where the powers that be need to sit down and consider bringing back capital punishment, also known as the Death Penalty because murderers have no business being on the face of this earth.

    1. I agree we need the death penalty back but dont hold your breathe waiting for any changes with that shit head who is still running the show now. He allows those animals who supported ISIS to return here, he rewards murderous terrorists very generously, he welcomes all kinds of rejects into this country and he gleefully shafts the taxpayers who have worked hard all their lives to support themselves and now are forced to support others who dont give a shit about us.

    2. Not taking away that this was a brutal act, but take a look around the world. Murder and money is what this world thrives off of, people killing people every hour of the day, sad but true.

    1. Once again, not a peep from “NAN Grand Chief” Alvin Fiddler.

What’s the hold up Alvin? I’m certain that the bat and hammer were made by non-indigenous people somewhere. You should be raging about that. No?

Seems whenever there’s FN on FN murder or violence, Fiddler accepts it like it’s just part of their culture. Had a non-native been within a mile of the heinous crime, he’d be screaming blue murder.

      Funny how that works?

A guy who’s sent away from the TBRHSC goes out and hangs himself and Fiddler goes through the roof blaming everyone at the TBHRSC and mainstream society in general. A native woman kills here own child and these two native punks kill this innocent young native man with only days between each incident and we hear nothing at all from Fiddler.

I find that very unsettling and I suspect that the families of the victims are likely just as disappointed in their “Grand Chief” as well.

Condolences to family and friends of these young people who had their lives so savagely snatched from them.

    2. This city is getting disgusting.. the youth in this city are way outta hand.. i hope MR. KARMA pays these two monsters a visit.. and the judge makes an example outta these POS..

  5. RIP young man……. your and always will be missed. My heart breaks for your family. i also hope these 2 damented sick indavidules get what is coming to them.

  6. Wtf is going on? Killers at such a young age. I wish murderers received the exact same torture they have inflicted on others. This young murderers should get the shit kick out of them and beaten the same way.

  7. Why when the crime is done by people off the same ethnicity we never hear a damn thing from the senior people from said group…when the crime is from one ethnicity to another then they have a lot to say? Open your eyes Mr. Fiddler and start taking a look at your own back yard before blaming the wrong people….

  8. I don’t know Austin or his family, but today I cried and cried. This could be anybody’s child. The people who did this are cowards. I’m hoping the system doesn’t release the “ kids” who did this. I imagine if they are of native heritage, they will be out within 2 years. Sad, sad , praying for the family and friends. Xo.

  9. This is just devastating, My heart weeps for this young mans family and friends. Another gone to soon because of some savages, when will this end. Fly with the Eagles and watch over the ones who loved you..

  10. RIP Austin. Prayers sent to your friends and family.

Having said that, stuff like this makes one wonder what this city is coming to. Not even the middle of January, and two murders committed already. Maybe the city doesn’t want to give up the title of Murder Capital of Canada.

  11. There is no mention of Austin’s 2 dogs that these 2 perpetrators clubbed almost to death for making noises when they broke into the house. The dogs are injured badly and the family is struggling to deal with the sudden and unexpected murder and funeral of their son. They need help with this, some investigated reporting should be done on the dogs.

  12. Oh my God, my condolences to the family and their loss. What were you were those young guys thinking? I know the Echum family and can only imagine what they are dealing with in regards to the actions of one of their members. My Prayers to Austin’s family.

  13. This is so sad a young youth just starting his adult life to be so tragically murdered. Why the use of a bat and hammer he did not deserve to die this way. These 2 young punks that think they are so brave to have done this to another human being deserve to be locked up for life. Actually they deserve the death penalty if we had one. A 14 year old to be so malicious has to be very mentally ill to listen to an older teenager well he deserves life with no parole also. He has a long life ahead of him and has to live with this daily. The sad part is that probably neither one of them have any remorse for what they have done. My thoughts go to the parents of Austin at this tragic time. I met Austin a few times as he was a friend of my granddaughter and he was always very respectful and polite. May he R.I.P. now flying with the angels and living in the Kingdom of the Lord. Condolences to all his family & friends and may God Bless them all and help to guide them through this most tragic and difficult time in their lives.

  14. I can somehow in a way relate to this family!

My child was also sleeping when a First Nation proceeded to stab my child. The difference is that my child survived and with long & intense treatment & therapy my child was eventually ok! To all of the individuals causing harm you are all LOW LIFES AND U WILL always be remembered by the harm that you have caused!

As for Cody Echum and anyone else who places BLAME, you place blame only because your too afraid to look at yourself and admit what YOU DID!! You hide your eyes and try your best to hide it from the Truth because you can’t believe that you are capable of doing something so violent! But the truth is YOU DID!

Both the individual who stabbed my child & Cody Echum are from NAN. Now where is Mr.Fiddlers apology towards our Families??? We want Answers too!!!!

I offer my prayers to the family ❤️❤️

    Sandra Elle

  15. Condolences to Austin, family and friends..such a tragedy..may the boys that did this have punishment to fit the crime!! Just deploreable to think kids this young have been taught no value of life!!!!So senseless…so many lives changed forever.
To Austins Mom…my heart breaks for you! Im so sorry this happened and pray for your healing and strength…May god wrap you and hold you tightly for as long as needed. I hope for you that maybe when the time is right and healing has happened you can do good things in Austin’s name to bring awareness and change. He will always be with you!!

  16. You can definitely see your skills within the work you write.
The sector hopes for more passionate writers like you who aren’t afraid to mention how they believe.
All the time follow your heart.
