(THUNDER BAY, ON) – The Ukrainian church located in the East End fell victim to being broken into. Officers with the Thunder Bay Police Service (TBPS) investigated the situation and have made an arrest.
The suspect suffered undisclosed injuries during the incident and was located stuck in a vent, upside down. He was transported to the Thunder Bay Regional Health Sciences Centre to get treatment. Thunder Bay Fire Rescue was on hand to assist rescuing the suspect. The same suspect is also being alleged to have stolen a cell phone and computer on September 23rd, 2019 from a woman.
25-year-old Petro Kolomeychuk was arrested and charged with:
- Theft under $5000 (computer and cell phone from September 23).
Kolomeychuk also has outstanding matters before the court still working their way through the situation. There are a total of 4 previous charges. It appears that charges have not been laid yet for the incident at the church as of yet.
Court was unable to attend to his matter immediately this morning due to him being at the hospital.
Sources indicate that Kolomeychuk is currently out on bail with his father as a surety. His father revoked his surety in June or July of this year and a warrant was issued for the arrest of Kolomeychuk. Further, sources indicate that Kolomeychuk has been back living with his father since September while having an active warrant. His parents were both in court this morning attempting to secure the release of their son. It is doubtful that the courts will release Kolomeychuk with his father as a surety.
Kolomeychuk appeared in a Thunder Bay courtroom this morning via a telephone call made to the TBPS officer that is guarding him at the hospital. Justice of the Peace Bruce Leaman was presiding over the matter this morning with Crown Attorney Derrick “The HAMMER” Silvestro to his right and a duty counsel lawyer to his left.
Bail was not granted today for Kolomeychuk. His lawyer, George Joseph requested through duty counsel for a bail hearing to be set on Tuesday, December 10th, 2019.
