(THUNDER BAY, ON) – On August 3, 2019, a woman was hanging out with someone she was apparently close with. Sometime during their time together, allegations are that the man logged into her online banking and transferred himself $1620. The woman claims she did not give him access to her account, her password and did not grant permission for the transaction to take place.

Police arrested 23-year-old Brenden Bryan Gravelle-Sanheo and charged him with fraud. He was released on conditions not to contact the woman or be near her home, work, or other places she frequents.

Officers with the Thunder Bay Police Service have once again arrested Gravelle-Sangeo, but this time he is alleged to have violated his release conditions by attending the address of the alleged victim and refused to leave. Police picked him up and held him at the police station pending his court appearance which took place this morning.

Gravelle-Sangeo appeared in a Thunder Bay courtroom this morning via video link from the Thunder Bay Police Service station while in police custody. His Worship, Justice of the Peace Bruce Leaman was presiding along with Crown Attorney Manon Arbour and a duty counsel lawyer.

Gravelle-Sanheo is facing the following criminal charges:

  • Fraud.
  • Breaching bail conditions.

The Crown states that although Gravelle-Sangeo is in a reverse-onus situation, they are willing to consent to his release on a non-deposit, no surety recognizance under the following conditions:

  • Report his address to police within 24 hours of being released from police custody.
  • Do not contact his alleged victim.
  • Do not be within 100 meters of her home, work, or anywhere she frequents.
  • Not to have any access to the alleged victims bank card.

Court hears that Gravelle-Sangeo has a substance abuse issue and has relapsed. Further, court hears that he is seeking to go into detox as soon as possible and get treatment for his addiction issue.

Duty counsel requests that Gravelle-Sangeo return to court on November 26th to begin answering to the charges. His Worship, Justice of the Peace Bruce Leaman orders Gravelle-Sangeo released from police custody and sets his return date to November 26th, 2019.

TODAY: On November 24th, 2019, the Thunder Bay Police Service issued a warrant for the arrest of Gravelle-Sonego due to allegations that he breached his bail condition which ordered him not to contact his alleged fraud victim. Two days later, police put out a missing person report.

Officers arrested Gravelle-Sonego sometime over the past 24 hours and held him at the Balmoral police station pending a court appearance. He appeared in court this morning via video link from the TBPS station. Justice of the Peace Bruce Leaman was presiding over court this morning along with Crown Attorney Derrick “The HAMMER” Silvestro and two highly skilled duty counsel lawyers, Emily Morris and Brennan Sacevich.

Gravelle-Sonego is facing a new charge of breaching his bail condition.

The Crown states that Gravelle-Sonego is in a reverse-onus situation which means that he will have to show the courts why he should be released. There is no consent from the Crown to release Gravelle-Sonego today. Further, the Crown is stating that Gravelle-Sonego was previously released, earlier in November on a recognizance bail plan. An early guilty plea resolution offer has been put forth to Gravelle-Sonego.

An “early guilty plea resolution” typically means if Gravelle-Sonego pleads guilty to this breach before obtaining bail or before a set date, he will likely get a slap on the wrist and time served of a few days, typically.

Duty counsel spoke with Gravelle-Sonego privately and has requested that Gravelle-Sonego return to court on Monday by video to re-address the matter.

Gravelle-Sonego is ordered to remain in jail until at least his next court date, where he will have another swing at being released from jail.
