(GERALDTON, ON) – Once again hard-working Ontario Provincial Police officers have put notorious criminal Dawson Perreault behind bars, only for him to be let out again.
Officers with the Greenstone detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police responded to a call for service at the Geraldton Composite High School as 20-year-old Dawson Perreault was spotted inside the school. He is under a probation order not to be anywhere a certain woman is. Perreault is not a student of this school.
The Crown further states that there are allegations of Perreault breaking into numerous cars and stealing items from them. Police media release is as follows:
Several reports of thefts from unlocked vehicle and buildings had been reported to police. The thefts and attempted thefts had been occurring in the overnight hours.
As a result of an investigation by members of the Greenstone Detachment and the Community Street Crimes unit (CSCU), police formed grounds to obtain a search warrant.
On Friday, September 6, 2019, Greenstone OPP and CSCU executed a search warrant at a residence in Geraldton, ON and arrested 2 males. Several items of stolen property were recovered from the residence and seized by police.
Dawson PERREAULT, age 20, of Geraldton, ON has been charged with the following Criminal Code offences.
- Break and Enter of a motor vehicle to commit theft.
- Breach of Probation (keep the peace and be of good behaviour).
- Breach of Probation (not be within 25 meters of a woman).
Perreault appeared in a Thunder Bay bail court via video link from the Greenstone Ontario Provincial Police detachment this morning. He was in front of Justice of the Peace Marcel Donio, Crown Attorney Derrick Silvestro and duty counsel lawyer Robert Habjan.
The Crown states that although Perreault is in a reverse onus situation, meaning he would have to show the courts why he should be released, the Crown recommends Perreault be released under the following conditions:
- $1000 non-deposit recognizance of bail.
- Reside in the 200 block of First Street East in Geraldton.
- No contact with 3 people.
- Not to attend within 50 meters of anywhere those three people may be.
- Not attend a specific address in Geraldton.
- Remain in his residence between the hours of 9:00 pm and 6:00 am.
- Present himself to the door when requested by police.
- Not to consume or possess any alcohol or unlawful drugs.
- Have his release papers on his person at all times.
- Not to attend the Geraldton Composite High School.
Police report that Dawson Perreault has had involvement in 118 police occurences. Regardless, he is ordered released from police custody and is scheduled to appear in a Geraldton courtroom on October 17th to begin answering to the charges.
