ANIMAL CRUELTY CHARGES AGAINST DOUGLAS MITCHELL AND MARLENE FINLAYSON IN RELATION TO THE DEATH OF DOG WERE WITHDRAWN ON APRIL 10,2018.
Finlayson and Mitchell still have outstanding criminal charges but not related to death of the dog that has since been named Karma.
Inside Edition sources indicate a key witness would not testify.
TUESDAY FEBRUARY 27,2018 UPDATE
TRIAL DATE SCHEDULED FOR TWO DAYS CONFIRMED FOR APRIL 30,2018 FOR DOUGLAS MITCHELL AND MARLENE FINLAYSON.
DOUGLAS MITCHELL NOW REPRESENTED BY LAWYER ARTURO ACOSTA.
June 5,2017 – Douglas Mitchell & Marlene Finlayson were scheduled to appear in Courtroom 102 for pretrial today. Neither was present but their lawyers wer. Tyler Woods is representing Finlayson and David Young is representing Mitchell.
There are several issues that need to be corrected before trial. One of the issues is that they are co-accused and the Crown has elected to proceed summarily against Mitchell and by indictment against Finlayson. It will be corrected so that that are both prosecuted by indictment ( more serious)
They are still awaiting forensic info on the death of the dog now named Karma by several animal activists in the community.
There are 12 witnesses scheduled by the prosecution and Judge DiGiuseppe feels this can be slimmed down by getting some agreement of fact.
Next court date scheduled is June 30,2017 at 9:15am for pre-trial coordination issues in Courtroom 303.
