(RAITH, ON) – Officers with the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) have been hard at work investigating the fatal collision near Raith that closed highway 17 for over 25 hours.
Police say that it will be some amount of time before they are able to release the identities of the two people who lost their lives in the Sunday evening collision.
Two transport trucks collided head-on just west of Raith and then burst into flames. Superior North EMS, Shabaqua Fire Department and Ontario Provincial Police responded to the scene.
Further, police say that they believe the two transport truck drivers are the only victims of the incident. No one else was involved.
The coroner’s office is still working on forensically identifying the bodies of the two drivers that lost their lives that day. Their identities are clearly known via records of who was driving those vehicles, but further confirmation is needed before it can be released to the public.
